Joc Pederson makes immediate impact as SF Giants beat Mets for first back-to-back wins of 2023 SAN FRANCISCO — With their lineup finally nearing full strength, the Giants’ dugout must have felt a sense of relief Sunday when it was Joc Pederson stepping to the plate in the cleanup hole.It was Pederson, in his first at-bat in nearly two weeks, who sent a line drive screaming into right field in the first inning, driving in the Giants’ first run. And it was Pederson, after drawing a one-out walk in the bottom of the eighth, who came screaming all the way from first on Mike Yastrzemski’s double to score the go-ahead run in the Giants’ 5-4 win over the Mets on Sunday, clinching a split in the four-game series. After coming out on top Saturday, the Giants have won consecutive games for the first time this season. With offensive contributions from Pederson and Thairo Estrada and a shutdown effort from their maligned relief group, the Giants overcame a short outing from Ross Stripling, who allowed three runs (two earned) over 3⅓ innings while filling Alex Wood&#...

Why Draymond Green offered to come off the bench for Warriors in Game 4 SAN FRANCISCO – The sacrifice that set up the Warriors’ series-tying win on Sunday really came back four nights prior, when Draymond Green walked into Steve Kerr’s office – adrenaline still pumping following the team’s Game 3 victory.Green was forced to watch his teammates cruise to a win without him as he served a controversial one-game suspension for stomping on Kings center Domantas Sabonis. But Green had a suggestion for Kerr after he saw the matchup from a spectator lens.“What do you think about me coming off the bench?” Green asked. The thought had crossed Kerr’s mind before Green had even brought it up. Floor spacing was much better in Game 3 with a four-shooter lineup as opposed to the first two games when the Kings tended to play off Green and Kevon Looney when they shared the floor.Kerr called Green on Saturday and the two weighed the pros and cons of him not starting. At one point, Kerr asked how Green would feel about coming off the bench for the first time in the playoff...

Steph Curry’s timeout gaffe nearly gives away Warriors’ Game 4 win SAN FRANCISCO – As Steph Curry nonchalantly called a last-minute timeout, he initially thought it was “the smartest play in the world” for the Warriors’ sake.“But it turned out not to be. I looked at the bench and everyone was shaking their head,” Curry said Sunday with an uneasy chuckle.Problem was, the Warriors had no timeouts remaining, and Curry’s call threatened to serve as an infamous gaffe in his and the Warriors’ playoff legacy.Curry and the Warriors escaped with a 126-125 win to even their opening-round series against the Sacramento Kings, who host Game 5 on Wednesday night.Curry took Chase Center’s crowd of 18,064 for a wild ride over the final minute. The timeout blunder was sandwiched between him missing two open shots, all of which led to his grand finale on defense, where he rushed over to challenge Harrison Barnes’ last-second miss from 3-point range.Curry finished with a team-high 32 points in nearly 43 minutes of work, including every minute of the fourth quarter, w...

Hensby outlasts Wi in playoff to win on PGA Tour Champions IRVING, Texas (AP) — Mark Hensby parred the fourth playoff hole after Charlie Wi hit his approach into the water on Sunday to win the Invited Celebrity Classic, his first victory on the PGA Tour Champions. The 51-year-old Australian closed with a 1-under 70 at Las Colinas, making birdie on the par-5 18th in regulation to match Wi at 12-under 201 through 54 holes. In the playoff, Hensby got up-and-down for par on the 18th after his approach came up short of the green and rolled back into the water.
