Broncos WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey used to find himself in Sean Payton’s dog house. Now he has the coach’s trust

Lil’Jordan Humphrey hasn’t always been in this position. The Broncos receiver enters Week 2 not only promoted to the active roster from the practice squad, but as a player coach Sean Payton trusts.Payton earlier this week gave Humphrey one of his most complimentary tags, saying “you know exactly what you’re getting” when it comes to the 25-year-old wide receiver. It would be easy to assume Payton’s always thought that about Humphrey. After all, New Orleans drafted him out of Texas in 2019 and Payton loaded up on several former Saints players during his first offseason as the Broncos’ head coach for a reason.Humphrey, though, had several bumps in the road over his first three years. It’s why he doesn’t take Payton’s trust in him now for granted.“I take a lot of pride in it, especially since, being with him early on in my career, that wasn’t the case,” Humphrey said. “I had to earn that with him. I earned that rapport with him.”From 2019-21, Humphrey appeared in 18 games (six starts) and...

The Broncos will be short-handed in the pass rush department, which struggled in the season-opening loss to the Raiders last week.Outside linebacker Frank Clark was ruled out for Sunday’s home matchup against the Washington Commanders due to a hip injury. Clark, a two-time Super Bowl champion, has missed the last two days of practice after being a limited participant on Wednesday.According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clark is expected to miss multiple weeks, but the injury is not considered serious. On Friday, Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he doesn’t expect Clark’s injury to change the team’s plan of rotating edge rushers.Against the Raiders, outside linebackers Randy Gregory and Jonathon Cooper played in more than 60% of the defensive snaps. Clark was in 42% of the defensive snaps, while second-year edge rusher Nik Bonitto was in 25%. Undrafted rookie Thomas Incoom was inactive, but there’s a chance he could play Sunday due to Clark’s absence.Tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstr...

Never one to miss a business opportunity, Deion Sanders handed out pairs of Blenders brand sunglasses to the hosts of ESPN’s First Take and the Pat McAfee Show on Friday morning. And, of course, the head coach of the 18th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes handed out glasses to each player on the football team.“I just wanted to see how you look in them. You look good,” said Sanders, who endorses Blenders. The gifts were, of course, in response to a comment made by Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell earlier this week, when he took a shot at Sanders, who often wears sunglasses and hats in public appearances.“When I talk to grownups, I take my hat and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me,” Norvell said on his radio show Wednesday.Sanders also isn’t one to miss an opportunity to throw material on the bulletin board, as he and the Buffs have taken Norvell’s comments and run with them this week in preparation for Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown at Folsom Field.BOULDER,CO SEPTEMBER 1...

Why rush hour isn't as bad in post-pandemic L.A.

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 00:09:23 GMT

Traffic congestion in Los Angeles and other metropolitan areas is simply a way of life, but a new study finds that the usual rush hour traffic jams aren't as bad in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic. The study, conducted by the University of North Carolina, found that, while traffic plunged to record lows during the height of the pandemic, overall traffic has returned to its pre-pandemic levels. But even with the same number of drivers on the road, rush hour traffic isn't as bad as it was prior to the pandemic. The 110 and 101 freeways are shown nearly empty on March 19, 2020, hours before California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an order to stay home to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. (Getty Images)The reason, researchers found, is that heavy traffic is being spread out throughout the day, rather than concentrated around specific times. The study utilized the thousands of California traffic sensors located on freeways and highways across the state, scouring data over a six-y...
